TRAVEL TO L’AQUILA

L’Aquila is a city in the centre of Italy at about 115 Km to the east of Rome. You can get to L’Aquila by train, by car, and by bus.

By TRAIN

The train service passing through L’Aquila is NOT RECOMMENDED for quick trips since it takes a very long time with several changes. Instead, it’s recommended to take the train to Rome, Pescara, or Giulianova stations and then continue to L’Aquila by bus. The service is faster.

By CAR

L’Aquila is connected to the Italian motorway network by the Autostrade dei Parchi (A24) which cross the Apennine mountain range from east to west. To the east, A24 (Roma-Teramo) connects to the A14 (Bologna-Taranto) via Teramo-mare highway which acts as an extension of the A24 up to the A14. To the west, the A24 connects to the A1 (Milan-Naples) near Rome.
For those coming from the south on the A14, a possible alternative is to turn onto the A25 near Pescara. The A25 connects to the A24 which leads to L’Aquila. An interesting detour that allows you to admire part of inland Abruzzo is to exit the A25 at Bussi-Popoli and head onto the SS17 state road that leads to L’Aquila.
